Bachelor Project, Urban Health Garden project at sq. Hjorten, Landskrona
individual project | 8 weeks | term 6, spr. 2021
A therapeutic urban garden in Landskrona designed to support mental health recovery through direct interaction with nature, combining horticultural therapy principles with restorative spatial design.
Despite access to education and economic stability, mental illness remains widespread in Sweden, with stress-related conditions the leading cause of sick leave. Research shows that engagement with nature can support both mental and physical recovery. Translating these principles into an urban context, this project transforms a central courtyard in Landskrona into an Urban Health Garden. Planting areas, sensory pathways, sheltered seating and creative workshops create a restorative environment where visitors can engage physically, reflect quietly and connect socially. Nature becomes an active participant in healing, offering a calm yet inspiring setting that nurtures well-being and creativity.
My role:
As the sole designer, I worked through all stages of the project, from research and site analysis to final design delivery. I developed the spatial program and designed key features, including planting beds and sensory walkways, with a focus on supporting therapeutic goals. The project combined evidence-based design with attention to the cultural and spatial context of Landskrona, aiming to create a proposal that is both functional and experientially engaging.

The Orangery and Workshop
The orangery and workshop form the heart of the project, offering spaces for creativity, relaxation, and connection with nature. The orangery provides a year-round, calming environment, while the workshop encourages hands-on engagement and recovery. Together, they blend nature and craftsmanship, supporting reflection and social interaction.
The Passage
The passage links the healing garden to the city, integrating it within the urban fabric. Partially open-air and partially enclosed, it ensures accessibility despite the site’s slope, providing a smooth transition from the outside world to the restorative courtyard.
Orangery interior
A lush, light-filled interior where greenery thrives year-round. Large windows bring abundant natural light into the rustic, sturdy structure, creating a calming and immersive environment that connects occupants with nature.
